Safeguarding Policy Statement

Overview and purpose of statement

Budding Vocals is committed to providing singing training in a safe and secure environment. It is our duty of care to safeguard all students from harm at all classes and productions through adherence to the Child Protection guidelines as laid out by the NSPCC.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safeguarding of all children and vulnerable adults who use Budding Vocals’ services and to ensure all employees and volunteers abide by the principles that guide our approach to the safeguarding of our students.

Legal Framework

This statement has been drawn up on the basis of legislation, policy and guidance that seeks to protect children in England/Northern Ireland/Scotland/Wales.

Our approach to safeguarding

Our approach to safeguarding is led by the principles which are informed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), relevant legislation and guidance and Budding Vocals’ core values.

We recognise that:

  • The welfare of children and vulnerable adults is paramount in all the work we do and in all the decisions we take

  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare

  • All children and adults, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have an equal right to protection from all types of harm or abuse

  • Some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous  experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues

  • Extra safeguards may be needed to keep children who are additionally vulnerable safe from abuse

We seek to keep children safe by:

  • Appointing a Safeguarding Lead and a Safeguarding Deputy

  • Developing child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures that best reflect the most current guidance

  • Using our safeguarding procedures to log concerns and information via the correct channels and to the right organisations

  • Ensuring all staff undergo enhanced DBS checks

  • Ensuring Directors have undergone the NSPCC’s Child Protection for Tutors training

  • Ensuring we provide a safe physical environment for all students by applying health and safety measures at all venues

  • Ensuring all Staff and Volunteers receive a copy of our Safeguarding Policy as part of their onboarding process and thus are acutely aware of their responsibilities to the children and vulnerable adults in their classes

  • Prohibiting toilet breaks for under 18 students at sessions taking place within shared premises, eliminating contact with general members of the public

  • Ensuring any class photography and videography is shared only with the Parent/Guardian’s and/or adult student’s consent

  • Ensuring that photographs of under 18 students in school uniform are edited to ensure school badges are unrecognisable

  • Ensuring names of students do not accompany published photography/footage of them

  • Recording of all information securely

  • Creating and maintaining an anti-bullying environment and ensuring we have procedures in place to deal effectively with any bullying should it arise. Budding Vocals does not tolerate bullying of any kind
